Deirdre has for some time been interested in William Macintosh, from whose sister she is descended, and has done some fantastic genealogical research. Deirdre, Dorian, and I were able to share some snippets and stories before visiting the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">grave of William&#8217;s brother, George, and George&#8217;s son <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Macintosh\">Charles<\/a> (the eponymous inventor of the Macintosh waterproofing process), in the grounds of Glasgow Cathedral.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_123\" style=\"width: 454px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/gm.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-123\" class=\"size-full wp-image-123\" src=\"https:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/gm.jpg\" alt=\"George Macintosh (1739\u20131807). Glasgow Museums.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gdl.cdlr.strath.ac.uk\/stecit\/stecit05.htm\">George Macintosh<\/a> was a successful industrialist who owned a large\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.electricscotland.com\/history\/glasgow\/glasgow3_34.htm\">cudbear dying works<\/a> in Glasgow, which operated for more than three quarters of a century from the 1770s. George and his wife, Mary (n\u00e9e Moore), are commemorated on their son&#8217;s gravestone. The inscription reads<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Here is interred,<br \/>\nCharles Macintosh.<br \/>\nOf<br \/>\nCampsie, and Dunchattan.<br \/>\nAnd Fellow of the<br \/>\nRoyal Society of London.<br \/>\nSon of George Macintosh,<br \/>\nand Mary Moore,<br \/>\nboth also here interred,<br \/>\nand the great grandson<br \/>\nof the last Provost<br \/>\nJohn Anderson of Douhill.<br \/>\nBorn 1766.
