The building is, however, in a parlous state and fenced off. Moreover, various grave markers (that were removed by the local council for safekeeping) seem to have been lost or misplaced\u2014a fact confirmed to Dierdre by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alness.com\/Alness-Heritage-Centre-g.asp\">Alness Heritage\u00a0Centre<\/a>. It is not, therefore, possible to visually confirm any Macintosh family burials on that site.<\/p>\n<p>More positively, Deirdre\u00a0reckons that\u00a0there is reason to suspect that\u00a0Achinduich\u2014a small settlement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Skibo_Castle\">Skibo Estate<\/a>\u2014was at one time home to Macintosh&#8217;s parents. The present building at the site,\u00a0Achinduich Lodge (above), was built for Andrew Carnegie in the early twentieth century and is now\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lhhscotland.com\/properties\/detail\/?id=530\">available to rent<\/a>\u00a0as a holiday let.<\/p>\n<p>Deirdre went on to\u00a0meet with the local historian\u00a0Reay Clarke (author, most recently, of the 2014 book\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theislandsbooktrust.com\/store\/books\/two-hundred-years-of-farming-the-story-of-my-family\/\">Two hundred years of farming in Sutherland: the story of my family<\/a><\/em>).
