{"id":679,"date":"2019-11-13T12:26:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-13T12:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/?p=679"},"modified":"2019-11-13T12:30:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-13T12:30:49","slug":"further-french-readers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/?p=679","title":{"rendered":"A further French reader"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>My <a href=\"https:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/?p=673\">recent return<\/a> to thinking about Brissot&#8217;s role in the French publication of Macintosh&#8217;s book  <br>encouraged me to look again at <a href=\"https:\/\/gallica.bnf.fr\/\">Gallica<\/a>, the excellent digital library of the\u00a0<em>Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France<\/em>. In particular, I was interested in any specific references I could find to the ownership of Macintosh&#8217;s book in its French edition. As ever, the library threw up some interesting mentions. In addition to some owners <a href=\"https:\/\/inneskeighren.com\/williammacintosh\/?p=93\">I had known about before<\/a>, Gallica revealed that a copy of the first edition was owned, for a short time before his death in 1787, by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles,_Prince_of_Soubise\">Charles de Rohan, Prince of Soubise<\/a>.
